Where do I begin?

You’re already half-way through the hardest part of the journey: reaching out for help. It can be hard to admit we need help, but we are all human therefore we all need help once in a while. Finish this first step by reaching out to us, whether by contacting us through the website, by email, or by calling or texting us at (325)644-8757. We value everyone’s time, therefore, if we are in a session with another client, please leave a voicemail, and we will call you back as soon as possible.

I’ve scheduled an appointment, now what?

After scheduling an appointment, our therapist will send out a welcome email with a link to your secure client portal where you can complete all the initial paperwork, view therapeutic worksheets, and see or change any upcoming appointments. As always, if you have any questions about your client portal or the paperwork, please reach out and we will help you through it.

What is the first session like?

The first session is kind of like a meet and greet session. It is a time for the therapist to learn more about what brings you to therapy at this time, what are some concerns you have, and what goals you want to achieve. Our therapist understands it can be really nerve-wracking talking to a complete stranger about, quite often, our deepest/darkest secrets and fears. Therefore, you get to set the pace and decide what you want to talk about. Our therapist might ask you a bunch of questions during the first session to better understand your situation, but you can always say you would rather not talk about that today. If you have any questions, or are feeling nervous about your appointment, please reach out and talk with us about these concerns.

Do you take insurance?

No, we do not take insurance. We are private pay only, but we make it as simple as possible. All you have to do is enter your card into our secure, HIPAA compliant site, and you will automatically be charged after each appointment. However, your statement will show “Professional Services” to maintain privacy.

I can’t afford full price. Do you offer discounted sessions?

Yes, we have several discounted programs available for people with lower income or who are unable to pay the full fee.

Our discounted sessions are based on what you can afford between $60-100. Please note there are limited spots available. However, this only applies to Individual Counseling Sessions, and does not apply towards Couples Counseling sessions.

We also offer discounted sessions through Open Path Collective. This is a non-profit organization that helps people with low income better access mental health care. Open Path Clients can choose how much they can afford on a sliding scale between $40-$70. However, there are limited spots available. To learn more about Open Path and how to lock in this rate, please contact us or visit https://openpathcollective.org/clinicians/laura-leedy/.

There is also a new program that just opened up for Scurry County residents. Life’s Healing Journey, PLLC has partnered with Scurry County United Way to offer ten free sessions to people who live in Scurry County who have low income or are unable to afford full or discounted fees. This is only for individual counseling, and does not apply for couples counseling. To learn more, please contact Life’s Healing Journey, PLLC at (325)644-8757.

FAQs

About the Therapy Process

How long does therapy last?

Our sessions are typically 50 minutes long, and sessions are usually scheduled on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. There are no time limits on the number of sessions allowed**. Clients can continue coming as long as necessary to achieve their goals. Unfortunately, there is no magic number of how many sessions each person will need as everyone’s journey is unique.
* *Unless clients are utilizing the Scurry County United Way Partnership Program, then it is limited to six sessions. However, if clients wish to continue with therapy after those six sessions, they are welcome to choose a different payment option.

What type of therapy is best for anxiety?

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is traditionally one of the most effective therapies used to treat anxiety. However, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, or EMDR, is also highly recommended as it works to connect and heal both the rational and emotional side of the brain in order to decrease the distress caused by our anxiety. EMDR also works to heal our internal beliefs often caused by our anxiety, such as "I'm not good enough" or "I can't handle it".

Would therapy help after a divorce?

Yes, therapy could definitely be beneficial in learning to recover and move on from significant life events such as divorce. There are a lot of emotions we go through during divorce. It's not just the stress of arguments and legal proceedings. It's also the uncertainty of the future. We spent so much time and energy into building a life we thought we would have forever. Now, everything has changed, and we must re-learn who we are and how we define ourselves outside of the marriage, home, and life that we no longer have. High conflict divorces also tend to leave us with some traumatic experiences that we need to work through in order to heal and move forward.
